Aaton K Market impact
Existing film recorder owners will need to carefully consider the impact of an AatonK appearing in their local market. Even if they upgrade to the very latest laser recording capabilities, the AatonK will still be faster and offer a noticeably higher quality output. Any production company test shoot-outs that include an AatonK are going to be clear cut in their conclusions.
Archive film
Having gone to effort of restoring old films at high resolution, it’s a sobering thought that if these digital 4K films are recorded to film at 4K on a laser recorder, up to 50% of the detail would be lost compared to recording with an AatonK film recorder. The AatonK is an ideal archive film recording system, able to output high resolution YCM frames to black and white stock at 3x the normal AatonK speeds.
4K on film
Finally with the AatonK we can see what 4K data looks like on a distribution print. Until now, laser recorder 4K resolution was marginally better than its 2K resolution. But a 4K file shot out on an AatonK looks completely different to a laser recorder, the detail is astounding.
