Toronto Facility Accelerates Colour Grading to Address Booming DI Business
FilmLight Ltd. pioneers of digital film technology, announced today that Cine-Byte Imaging, Canada’s premiere digital film facility, has purchased the first Baselight Four colour grading system in North America. The new Baselight system, based on FilmLight’s scaleable, super-high bandwidth image processing system and including support for video I/O capability, gives Cine-Byte increased grading speed and enables creation of video as well as film deliverables – ultimately enabling the facility to take on more projects and turn them around faster.
Cine-Byte Imaging adds the new Baselight Four colour grading system to its full complement of FilmLight DI hardware and software– a Northlight film scanner, an existing Baselight colour grading system, and Truelight colour management system, which is implemented facility wide to ensure accurate emulation of the final deliverable on electronic displays. The company has used its FilmLight system for projects including the full DI on Miramax’s ”Spymate,” and international independent features “Chestnut,” “Elles Etaient Cinq,” and “Water,” scanning/paint-out and conform on Sony Pictures’ “Resident Evil II: Apocalypse,” and many other independent and studio projects.
Cine-Byte Imaging President Alan Bak noted, “Adding the Baselight Four gives us two full colour grading suites – allowing tremendous flexibility in managing multiple projects regardless of budget. The new Baselight Four system is a full “hero suite” allowing real time manipulation of 2K or HD data. We are constantly being asked to quote on video deliverables, and the Baselight Four system gives us that capability. Video versioning is a huge opportunity, and bringing this new system on line will allow us to take on a very broad spectrum of post production work.”
FilmLight Commercial Director Peter Stothart said, “Baselight Four gives facilities doing either film or video work a colour grading system that offers the flexibility of software and the real-time power of dedicated hardware. With the addition of Baselight Four and Eight, the Baselight family now offers a path that enables facilities to increase performance and capabilities as their business grows – from offering multiple deliverables all the way to real-time 4K grading.”
