Companies Also Unveil Truelight/Bones Dailies Integration for End-to-End Colour Management
FilmLight and Grass Valley (www.thomsongrassvalley.com) will be conducting a joint demonstration at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in which FilmLight’s Baselight colour grading system will be used to control a Grass Valley Spirit Classic DataCine. This marks the first time that a software-based colour grading system has been used to control a Spirit DataCine. The combination marks a significant step forward in terms of operational efficiency and flexibility for traditional film-to-tape transfer workflows. The demonstration will be held at the FilmLight booth (SL8608).
The demonstration will show Baselight’s ability to directly control the entire command block of Grass Valley Spirit DataCines and Shadow Telecines. That includes the systems’ film transport, primary and secondary colour, focus, resize and rotate, sharpness filter and degrain features.
“The combination of Baselight and Spirit makes traditional telecine workflows more productive,” said FilmLight Marketing Director Andrew Johnston. “Colourists can use the Spirit’s colour correction and other tools for routine tasks, and employ Baselight for shots that need extra finessing. After grading, the finished shots can be dropped into the tape as insert edits.”
In another joint venture, FilmLight and Grass Valley have integrated Grass Valley’s Bones Dailies Post Production Solution with FilmLight’s Truelight colour management system. The integrated technologies are designed for use as part of a calibrated, onset to deliverables production pipeline. The implementation of Truelight ensures that colour decisions made at the dailies stage are retained for reuse and modification at subsequent stages of post production. This results in improved productivity and enhanced creative control. Data interchange is in ASC CDL format.
Baselight control for Spirit Datacines and Truelight colour management for Bones Dailies will be available beginning in June.
