Post Division Employs New System to Grade Projects for ITV
Seeking to round out its post production service offerings, Post @ The London Studios (TLS) has purchased FilmLight’s Baselight HD non-linear, software-based colour grading system. It marks the first time that the facility, one of the leading providers of post services for television in the U.K., will feature colour grading. In adding Baselight HD to its existing editorial, graphics and audio post production services, Post @ TLS will now be able to provide a complete solution for television post.
TLS wanted to add colour grading in order to retain clients that previously went elsewhere for the service. “We have been handling everything—except for the grade—for the projects that post here,” explained Jacqui Rutherford, Director of Post Production Operations, TLS Post. “With Baselight HD, the client can now offline, pre-grade, on-line, grade, add titling and audio dub with us—we’re a one-stop shop.”
In an extensive review of its options, Post @ The London Studios evaluated a number of software- and hardware-based colour grading solutions before selecting Baselight. “FilmLight had a great reputation for grading and what we saw during the evaluation of Baselight confirmed it,” said Rutherford.
Post @ TLS has already used Baselight HD to grade several programs for ITV, among them are Marc Bolan, 20th Century Boy, a documentary about the late British rock star, and the factual series Help, I’m A Teenage Mum. “The grades have been excellent and well received by all our clients,” Rutherford noted. “Baselight’s ability to work in a non-linear manner and render in the background has been particularly beneficial in saving time without compromising quality.”
Located at the famous ITV Tower on London’s South Bank, The London Studios generates more than 1000 hours per year of high quality entertainment, news, sport and factual programming for the ITV network, the BBC, Channels 4, Five and other broadcasters. “Post-production for television now has the flexibility and speed to enhance imagery and make creative colour decisions for many types of programming” commented Arthur Johnsen, FilmLight UK & Ireland Sales manager. “We’re extremely pleased that Post @ TLS have chosen Baselight to lead the way in the ever-expanding trend of color-correction for broadcast.”
In addition to Baselight HD, Post @ TLS resources include 19 Avid Adrenaline off-line editing systems, six Avid Symphony Nitris on ISIS Unity storage systems and Avid DS Nitris, as well as graphics and audio post production systems. Recent projects completed at Post @TLS include Trinny and Susannah: Undress the Nation, The South Bank Show and The F-Word.
