FilmLight end-to-end 4K workflows at Inter BEE 2014

Demonstration of fully-featured grading and finishing at high frame rate 4K

With the Japanese market moving rapidly towards advanced television formats, FilmLight will show its total pipeline solution at Inter BEE 2014 (Makuhari Messe, Chiba City, Japan, 19–21 November). Innovative workflows – currently in use with major production companies in Japan and worldwide – will be on display, demonstrating FilmLight’s renderless and colour-accurate framework from set to final delivery.

Kyodo Television, a leading TV production company in Japan, is already using the FilmLight workflow extensively for its 4K, 60fps TV productions. On set, the FilmLight FLIP is used to define complex looks that reflect closely the vision of the director and DoP. This grade is preserved through to the finishing suites, where the graded material is available for offline and online edits in Avid at the same time as being refined in Baselight. It is a true collaboration between the director, the FLIP and Baselight operators, and the Avid editors.

“Kyodo Television are a perfect example of our total pipeline solution,” said Wolfgang Lempp, co-founder of FilmLight. “Using our BLG workflow, the team at Kyodo TV interoperate fully with Baselight, FLIP and Baselight Editions; they manage and even tweak complex looks within the finishing system, generate graded DNxHD rushes for editing, and, later, 60p UHD masters, while maintaining the fast turnaround that episodic TV demands.”

The swift and seamless FLIP to Baselight workflow will be demonstrated in full on the Inter BEE 2014 stand (Hall 4, booth 4412). FilmLight will also exhibit Daylight, the new Mac Pro software solution for near-set colour grading. Daylight integrates into FilmLight’s colour pipeline to help DoPs and directors establish looks and visualise what they have shot, on set or on location.

FilmLight’s long-term partner, Hoei Sangyo, who is also an Avid reseller, will be demonstrating the FilmLight-Avid integration on its stand (Hall 5, booth 5615). Inter BEE visitors will be able to see the unique, native 4K production environment with Baselight PLUS (the integrated colour grading package from FilmLight) connected to Avid ISIS 5000 shared storage, which supports the newly introduced Avid DNxHR codec. Again, greater productivity is achieved with a renderless workflow, ideal for the time demands of television production.
