FilmLight’s Baselight connects with Avid Unity in real-time, collaborative workflow for Broadcast television post production
BBC Scotland has purchased a Baselight HD from FilmLight for use in a new colour grading suite based in the BBC HDTV production facility at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. The installation will also employ FilmLight’s Baselight Kompressor technology to provide Baselight with direct, real-time grading to media stored on the facility’s Avid ISIS SAN. BBC Scotland plans to use Baselight to grade a wide range of television programmes from landmark factual to the popular soap opera River City.
“Baselight will be part of an elegant workflow that will permit grading connecting directly from the ISIS SAN or locally, by ingesting HD tapes or file-based media,” observes Arthur Johnsen, FilmLight’s Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland. “Baselight offers the advantages of a deep creative toolset for setting looks and polished programme output, as well as the speed and performance essential to a busy broadcast production operation.”
Baselight’s ability to natively grade DNxHD and MXF-wrapped Avid file formats will allow it to integrate seamlessly with BBC Scotland’s editorial systems in an end-to-end, file-based workflow, Johnsen added. The system also features direct support for native digital camera file formats, including RED and Phantom cameras.
Installation of Baselight HD and Baselight Kompressor is scheduled for March with grading operations expected to begin shortly thereafter.
