FilmLight Ltd. pioneers of digital film technology, announced today the installation of two Truelight colour management systems to Lip Sync Post in London. The first project at Lip Sync Post to benefit from this technology is the feature ‘Ladies in Lavender’ starring Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, which marks the directorial debut of Charles Dance.
The Truelight systems have been installed in Lip Sync’s recently completed iQ multi-format grading & compositing suite and will be used for both film and video deliverables. Stuart Fyvie, Colourist at Lip Sync Post’s digital lab explains, “With the addition of Truelight we are able to match grade on our HD monitor and HD projector simultaneously. We believe that Truelight provides the most advanced and accurate calibration available – for both film and video deliverables output. In practical terms this means that directors and cinematographers can work with colourists and more easily achieve the final film ‘out’ result at any stage of the postproduction workflow.”
Describing the facility’s involvement in ‘Ladies In Lavender’, Alasdair MacCuish, head of the digital lab said: “Our Northlight systems provided the 2K scanning, and the iQ suite with Truelight was used to match-grade key sequences integrating VFX and background plates as well apply primary and secondary grade to standalone sequences. The multi-purpose system was also used to create the end roller, digitally paint out dirt and scratches, create complicated opticals, dozens of subtitles and even some FX work. Output to film was via our Arri Laser recorders.”
The Truelight systems at Lip Sync Post were also used in the production of video deliverables for ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (dir. Edgar Wright) – just released in the UK.
