Mwnci, the leading Cardiff-based TV post production company, has invested in a Baselight HD colour-grading system and Baselight Kompressor from FilmLight, to complement its existing Avid editing workflow. The new system has just been installed and will be used immediately on a number of upcoming projects including Whites for BBC Two, starring Alan Davies.
Baselight HD is designed for fast, creative video grading and finishing and works with the Baselight Kompressor to provide easy interoperability between Baselight grading operations and Avid editing systems without ever needing to copy media. Baselight Kompressor allows you to natively mount Avid storage and browse, read or write native Avid MXF media.
“We currently have over 50 Avid DS, Symphony Nitris and Media Composer work stations based over three sites, so we wanted a grading system that would work seamlessly with our existing Avid kit,” said Richard Moss, managing director of Mwnci. “Baselight allows us to take sequences from the Avid system into the Baselight for grade and then back into the Avid for finishing using the same file format, making our workflow incredibly efficient. This made it an obvious choice, particularly as Baselight is seen as a market leader by many of our clients, who are particularly keen to have their HD jobs graded with a Baselight.”
“We’ve gone to great lengths to make sure that Baselight fits seamlessly into multiple workflows, so we’re delighted that Mwnci has seen the benefits that Baselight offers to the efficiency of its workflow as well as creatively,” said Mark Burton, Head of Marketing at FilmLight.
