Power of Baselight X on display at the heart of Inter BEE

Yoko Kimura joins to spearhead sales and marketing in region

FilmLight is to demonstrate the state of the art in creative colour and efficient workflows for production and post on its booth at Inter BEE 2019 (13–15 November, Makuhari Messe, stand 6111).

At Inter BEE, the FilmLight presence will be led by Koichi Matsui, General Manager of FilmLight KK, along with Yoko Kimura, newly appointed sales and product specialist. “FilmLight is one of the world’s leading companies for production and post production technology,” said Koichi Matsui “Yoko’s recent appointment underlines this region’s importance to us, and is a clear indication of the support we are giving to our existing and future customers in Japan.”

Top end post-production is placing ever-more stringent technical demands on technology, in support of the creative ambitions of directors, cinematographers and colourists. 4K and HDR are now commonplace, and 8K is being broadcast today in Japan. Recently, Baselight workstations were chosen for grading and finishing Ang Lee’s new movie, Gemini Man, shot and delivered in 120 frames per second, 4K, high dynamic range 3D.

Only the power of the Baselight X system can handle such a data-intensive project, while still giving the colourist free rein with next-generation creative tools and realtime response. FilmLight will demonstrate these tools as part of its latest software version at Inter BEE 2019, on an 8K display powered by a Baselight X grading system. This includes new productivity features such as the enhanced timeline with collapsing stacks and multiple tracks.

Also new are improved keyers and trackers, enhancements to the grading workflow, and a new lens correction feature, capable of both correcting and applying radial lens distortion, making it a creative as well as restorative tool. Reflecting the growing use of Baselight as the finishing platform, more delivery outputs have been added, including the ability to natively produce IMF packages for Netflix.

Alongside Baselight X, FilmLight will also be showcasing the latest developments in Baselight Editions, the plugins for Avid, NUKE and Flame to allow render-free collaborative post. The complete end-to-end workflow is enhanced with the latest version of Daylight, the dailies management and transcoding system.

Recently demonstrated at IBC2019, visitors to Inter BEE will finally discover the new Blackboard Classic control panel. Blackboard Classic is designed within the same ergonomic profile as the popular Blackboard 1, with the addition of large high-resolution displays, a larger tablet and extendable connectivity. The Blackboard Classic sits between FilmLight’s soft-key Slate and Blackboard 2 panels, allowing Baselight artists to use a full-sized panel within budget constraints.

“There could not be a better time to join FilmLight,” said Yoko Kimura. “The technology is unrivalled and meets any challenge the creative world throws at it – even the extreme demands of Ang Lee and Gemini Man. I am so excited to show the latest enhancements to the Japanese post community.”

Demonstrations of the complete FilmLight colour pipeline can be seen on stand 6111 in hall 6 at Inter BEE 2019.
