Vision On adds color with FilmLight

CineSys Oceana supplies Baselight ONE with Blackboard panel for expanded grading department

Specialist New York post house, Vision On, has added a Baselight ONE color grading system from FilmLight in response to client demands for one-stop finishing. Vision On is a boutique retouching facility with a great reputation for high-end work in the fashion and beauty market. With the support of FilmLight’s local partner, CineSys Oceana, it has now elected to move to the industry leader in grading technology to deliver the best finish.

Senior colorist Nick Metcalf is widely recognized for his fresh approach to color grading and creating unique looks. The style has been developed over years of working with the best photographers, DPs and directors in the beauty and fashion world. Metcalf recognized that to deliver the quality results his clients demanded, the company needed to be able to meet their expectations in real-time.

“We see a difference in the quality of work we produce because we spend more time perfecting the image and less time working around software limitations,” Metcalf said. “Baselight and Blackboard 2 give us many more ways to manipulate the image – we are not locked into a specific toolset.”

The workflow flexibility of the Baselight ONE means that there are fewer steps between the color room and delivery of the final product. Clients appreciate faster turnarounds, and the company is more productive and therefore more profitable. That, in turn, has allowed Vision On to develop business beyond its core beauty and fashion specialisation, finishing commercials in other sectors and grading two feature films.

“Baselight is the first choice in grading right now,” said Metcalf. “We have clients who ask for it by name, so it sells itself. And clients who have never seen it before notice the difference between Baselight and our previous system. That all means more business for our company.”

The new Baselight suite at Vision On is linked with Flame, Smoke and Nuke, which the facility uses for compositing and beauty work.
